Device Use
We’d like to share a brief update regarding student use of devices ☎️ at school and ask for family support as we continue through this cycle.
For the most part, laptops and phones are being used responsibly, and we appreciate the support many of you provide at home in reinforcing healthy habits 🙏. As a reminder, our policy is as follows:
Laptops
Only to be used under teacher supervision during class time
Not to be used during breaks unless there is express approval and supervision by a teacher
Permitted class platforms include:
IXL
Google
Blooket
Kahoot
Canvas
Wayground
Phones
Not to be used by students at any time between 8:30am and 2:30pm
If a student needs to contact a parent urgently, they may ask a teacher for support.
Unfortunately, we have observed some creeping of inappropriate usage during the school day. This includes laptops being taken out during breaks and some students attempting to use phones discreetly (e.g. keeping them in bags while using them 🙄). We have reminded students today that honesty and accountability are essential.
Going forward: If a student uses a device outside of the approved times or inappropriately, the device will be collected for the remainder of the day and a note will be sent home. There will be no first warning.
ACTION ✅ We ask that you please discuss this with your child over the weekend. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out.
These expectations are in place to support students in being fully present with their peers during the school day. It’s not about removing freedom or limiting connection, but about building important inner skills: managing distractions, developing a healthy relationship with technology, and building the resilience to move through a full school day.
We are noticing that some students are increasingly reaching out to parents during the day to be collected when they feel uncomfortable or momentarily “not up to it.” While we always take genuine illness seriously, we also want to support students in building the confidence and resilience to work through normal ups and downs in a school day, with the support of their teachers.
Thank you for partnering with us in this. Gracias a todo! 🥰
